In a complaint filed by Sr. Trooper J.D. Richards on Thursday, February 6th, 2026, Trooper Richards stated that at approximately 10:30 p.m. he responded to a 911 hang up from an address in the 13,000 block of South Calhoun Highway.
Trooper Richards arrived on scene to see a green in color Jeep sitting in a field next a horse barn still running with it’s lights on. He approached the vehicle and looked inside to find two (2) juveniles in the vehicle with no sign of any parents. The Trooper inquired to the older juvenile how long their mother and her boyfriend had been gone? The older juvenile stated that they had been gone since about 8:40 p.m.
On the same date, Trooper Richards and Deputy Stephens of the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department were on scene and
witnessed a side-by-side pull in front of the Jeep. A female stepped out, later to be identified as Karissa Reip.
Trooper Richards asked what was going on, and Ms. Reip advised that nothing was going on. He then spoke to a male who was following the side-by-side in a white older Toyota Tacoma who advised it was some sort of fight between his brother, and Ms. Reip. The Trooper then asked him where his brother was and was advised that he was sitting in the driver’s side of the Side-by-side that pulled up to the scene.
Trooper Richards spoke with the brother who was shirtless sitting in the driver’s seat with a large amount of dried blood on his lips. The Trooper also observed swelling in the left side of his face, and several scratches and bruises on his shirtless body. The victim advised when asked what happened “She beat the (expletive) out of me”.
On the same date, Trooper Richards spoke to Karissa Reip, hereinafter referred to as the accused who advised that it was actually the victim that engaged in being aggressive with her first and that she was trying to defend herself. This Trooper walked to where the incident reportedly happened. Ms. Reip advised that the victim threw her down in the snow by her neck and that’s why she was wet. Ms. Reip pointed to a few bruises on her forearms as injuries received from the victim. The Trooper did not observe any apparent redness around Ms. Reip’s neck.
Trooper Richards once again spoke with the victim who advised that the accused started hitting him, and after about ten (10) punches, he shoved her and was trying t o get away from her. The victim did advise that he smacked the accused but detailed this was as she was attempting to batter him.
The Victim’s brother informed Trooper Richards that he only witnessed the end of the event, but he had seen Ms. Reip hit the victim in the past.
Trooper Richards made a determination from the injuries received that Ms. Reip was the primary aggressor in this instance and placed her in custody for Domestic Battery.
Karissa Reip was taken to the West Virginia Central Regional Jail after being charged with Domestic Battery. She was released on a $5,000 bond to appear for a pre-trial hearing on March 10th, 2026 at 10:00 a.m.
