Richard L. “Dick” Jarvis, 91, of Grantsville, West Virginia, has joined his wife in heaven on March 16, 2026. A proud veteran, Dick served in the US Army Reserves for 33 years. He began his military career in 1958 as an enlisted soldier rising to the rank of Sergeant First Class. He then transferred to the Army Medical Corps with a direct commission to the rank of Major and ultimately achieving the rank of Colonel at the end of his career culminating as the Chief Pharmacy Officer for Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii during his call to active duty in support of Operation Desert Storm in 1991.

Dick was a 1957 graduate of the WVU School of Pharmacy. He was a partner in the family-owned pharmacy the J&B Drug Store in Grantsville, WV. Never fully retiring he worked here his entire adult life. Everyone knew Dick as he was often consulted by many customers prior to seeing their doctors. He loved serving his community and would often open the store late at night to fill a prescription or to help someone in need. Dick met the love of his life Edna Frederick at the J&B where she worked as a clerk. They were married on February 7th 1958.

Born on October 18, 1934 in Wood County, West Virginia. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph “Duke” and Mildred Reading Jarvis, and his wife of 51 years Edna Frederick Jarvis.

Those left to cherish his memory are his brother Joe (Rosemary) Jarvis, his children, Rick (Cheryl) Jarvis, and Leisa (Jake) Stover; grandchildren, Justin (Aine) Hartshorn, Kristina (Tyler) Ritchie, Melissa (Jon) Hartshorn, Seth (Shannon) Jarvis, and Aaron Dawson-Jarvis; great-grandchildren Adley, Aspen and Aniah Ritchie, Weston Jarvis, and soon to be Seneca Jarvis.

Dick had many friends including his special companion, Loretta Stevens. They were always together sharing love and laughter and cooking special meals for their beloved dogs. Dick’s family would like to extend appreciation to the girls at the store and for all they did for him. He loved them like family.

Dick was a faithful Christian and loved the Lord with all his heart. He attended First Baptist Church in Grantsville, WV. He was bold in his witness to others and enjoyed hearing gospel music. He was an avid lover of all God’s creatures, often feeding deer, squirrel and coons from his kitchen window. You could always see him in town driving around with his little dog Foxy who he loved greatly.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, March 22, 2026, at First Baptist Church of Grantsville, 418 High Street, Grantsville, WV 26147, with Pastor Rick Godfrey and Pastor Ron Chesser officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Interment will immediately follow at Bethlehem Cemetery, with full military honors.
