Larry Freed Obituary

William “Larry” Freed, 62 of Freed, WV, passed away March 1, 2024 at his residence.

He was born June 19, 1961, the son of the late Arzie William Freed and Retha June Wilson of Freed.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Robert Earl “Bob” Freed.  

He is survived by his soulmate and loving wife, Gina Lee Yancey Freed and children, Jessica Le-Ann Freed of Vienna, WV, Kristy Noel Freed and fiancé, Scott Ellison of Parkersburg, WV, Tiffany Dawn Freed of Midland, MD, Christopher Wayne Gherke (Michelle) of Gypsy, WV, and Jessica Marie Hardesty (Dan) of Morgantown, WV; grandchildren, Danica Gherke, Zaiden Borror, Amos Hardesty, Bethy Hardesty,  Simeon Hardesty and Conor Nicholas; sisters, Vivian Dye (Denzil) of Mt. Zion, WV, Elaine Miller (Bernard) of Big Springs, WV and Donna Poling (Dick) of Mt. Zion, WV.

Larry was a graduate of Calhoun County High School, class of 1979, attended Glenville State College and was honorably discharged from the United Staes Marine Corp Reserve with the Rank of E-5.  He worked as a meat cutter and dept. manager for 40 years; 34 years in Parkersburg with the Foodland and Piggly Wiggly groups, then finished his career in Glenville with the good people of Waco Foods at Foodland.

Larry was a member of Brooksville Missionary Baptist Church, the Christian Motorcycle Association of Parkersburg and the NRA.  He enjoyed spending time on the farm raising beef cattle with his wife and grandchildren by his side, hunting on the farm and fishing at the beach with his cousins, and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle with his wife, nephew and friends. 

A celebration of life will be held at 3pm Saturday, March 9, 2024 at Brooksville Baptist Church in Big Bend, WV. A visitation will take place from 2-3pm prior to the service. His ashes will be spread on his farm which has been in the family since 1865, and in the Freed Cemetery.  Cremation services were provided by Raiguel Funeral Home, Harrisville, WV.
